Special Events

Opening ceremonies The 2008 Washington State Senior Games will formally open at 8:00 am, on Saturday, July 26, at the Tumwater High School Stadium. Following the playing of the national anthem and presentation of the Senior Games torch, the mayors from South Sound communities will officially open the Games.

We encourage all participating athletes to attend the opening ceremonies as an important part of your overall experience competing in the Games.

Healthy snacks will be available at this event.

Walk of Ages As part of the formal opening of the Washington State Senior Games, a non-competitive event designed to appeal to all people interested in healthy physical activity and improved quality of life for seniors is planned.  An intergenerational Walk of Ages will start at 8:30 am, on Saturday, July 26, at the Tumwater High School Stadium.  There is no cost to participate in this event and registration is not necessary.

In keeping with the spirit of the Senior Games, there is only one qualification to participate in the Walk of Ages:  at least one person among the families and friends walking must be 50 years of age or older.

At the conclusion of the Walk of Ages, it is hoped that all of the walkers will remain at Tumwater Stadium, either to continue as a member of the competition or to cheer on senior athletes who will be competing in a host of track and field events.  What better way to observe and understand the positive impact the Senior Games have on the senior community.

Reception A reception for all athletes, guests and friends will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 26 at The Lodge at Jubilee at Hawks Prairie in Lacey There is no charge to attend this reception.

Athlete Celebration Dinner In celebration of all of our athletes and their families, volunteers and our sponsors, a Celebration Dinner is planned for 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 26, at The Lodge at Jubilee at Hawks Prairie in Lacey.

Cost to attend the dinner is only $10 per person and includes a delicious catered meal from Ramblin' Jacks in Olympia, great entertainment and drawings for prizes. Registration is required.

Plan now to attend this special event where spirits and camaraderie run high.  The Athlete Celebration Dinner has become an unforgettable highlight of the Senior Games (ask anyone who attended the dinner last year)..
